Thanksgiving

So this week was Thanksgiving and I went up to my Uncle Russ's house to spend time with my family. My cousin Jake is entering the MTC on Wednesday so it is kind of weird to think. I will be back up there on Sunday for his fairwell. My aunt Cindy is going crazy with everything she has to do before Jake leaves but I know that it will be ok. I am very proud of my cousin Jake and the choice that he made to go on a mission. I know that he has lots of good examples on the Thompson side of his family but there are not much on the Wall side of things. I know that Jake will do an amazing job.
While I was in Layton my Aunt Cindy asked me which holiday I like better Christmas or Thanksgiving. I thought that I would share my answer with everyone. If you get rid of the commercialization of Christmas they are about equal in my book. Here is why.
Thanksgiving is a holliday devoted to just being Thankful true you get together as family adn have a huge feast but there are two of the things that we have to be thankful for family and food to eat. I like how the soul purpose of Thanksgiving is to get everyone to remember how blessed they are and to be Thankful (what other holiday has that purpose).
Christmas is a time to remember Christ and his birth. It is another time that we gather together as families and celebrate. It is an amazing reason for a holiday but unfortunately it has been commecialized and is losing original purpose.
I think that is part of Satan's plan to get us to forget the birth of Christ and then to get us to forget about christ. If you think about Easter is becoming comemercialized as well. It is my opinion that if Christmas and Easter become so commercialized that we forget Christ Thanksgiving will also start to lose its purpse but it will take a lot more to get Thanksgiving to lose its purpose since there is Santa or the Easter bunny to bring you presents or goodies.
Well I am leaving Layton and heading to Salt Lake to see the lights on Temple square. Have a great rest of the weekend everyone.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy(ed) seeing the lights at temple square this year. I wish I could be there with you! Of course, being 36 weeks pregnant means I'm not allowed to go anywhere too far from my hospital . . .

Happy Thanksgiving!

Jon says, "Happy Thanksgiving! Don't get too cold in the snow!" (Becca asks: "Is it snowing there?" Jon replies: "Well, it will be sometime, and it will be cold." Becca thinks Jon is sleepy.)
